How to Pay the U.S. Visa Fee in Vietnam

The DS-160 itself has no submission fee. Applicants in Vietnam pay the separate nonimmigrant visa application (MRV) fee through the official U.S. visa appointment service before an interview can be scheduled.

Payment methods in Vietnam

The official Vietnam payment options page currently lists four methods:

  • QR code via bank app or e-wallet (HIMCOM): scan the generated QR with your banking app or e-wallet. Pay immediately — a saved QR image can expire and fail to activate — and never edit the default transaction description.
  • VietQR code via mobile banking (VNPOST): download and print your receipt immediately after paying; the system cannot reissue it later.
  • Cash at VNPOST/EMS locations: print one Cash Deposit Instruction (one per family/group), pay the exact amount before its expiration date, and keep the cashier's receipt — it cannot be reissued if lost.
  • Debit or credit Mastercard in USD: billed in U.S. dollars via a hyperlink at checkout, Mastercard only. Your bank may add foreign transaction and conversion fees, and the billing address must match your card exactly.

Step-by-step payment process

  1. Submit the DS-160 and save the confirmation page.
  2. Create a profile on the official Vietnam visa service.
  3. On the payment page, verify the number of applicants, visa type, and VND amount (set at the State Department's consular exchange rate) before submitting.
  4. Pay with one method and save the receipt right away — several methods cannot reissue receipts.
  5. Wait for activation: QR payments before 5:00 p.m. on a business day process in about 2 hours; payments after 5:00 p.m. activate by 9:00 a.m. the next business day; allow up to one business day overall.
  6. Return to your profile and schedule the interview once the receipt is active.

Vietnam-specific payment rules

  • The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, whether or not a visa is issued.
  • If a payment appears to fail, do not pay a second time — email support-vietnam@usvisascheduling.com with your reference. Duplicate payments are not refunded.
  • The receipt can be used to schedule an appointment for one year from the payment date.
  • Interview Waiver (mail-in) applicants without a VietQR receipt must submit a bank statement showing the payment reference number and/or applicant name — mobile banking screenshots are not accepted.
  • Family and group applications paying cash use one payment with one Cash Deposit Instruction for the whole group.
  • F, M, and J students and exchange visitors also owe a separate SEVIS fee paid on fmjfee.com — the MRV payment does not cover it.

How much is the U.S. visa fee in VND?

The fee is set in U.S. dollars — $185 for B visitor and F/M/J student visas, higher for petition-based work visas — and collected in VND at the consular exchange rate shown at checkout. Confirm the current amount on the Department of State fee schedule.

Can I pay with MoMo, ZaloPay, or my banking app?

Yes — through the QR code option on the payment page, scanned from a participating bank app or e-wallet. Pay as soon as the QR code is generated and leave the transaction description unchanged, or the payment may not activate automatically.

How long until I can book my interview?

QR payments made before 5:00 p.m. on a business day typically activate in about two hours; later payments activate by 9:00 a.m. the next business day. Allow up to one full business day before contacting support.

I lost my receipt. Can I get another copy?

Mostly no — VNPOST VietQR and cash receipts cannot be reissued, and card acceptance receipts cannot be reprinted. HIMCOM QR payments let you download the receipt from the HIMCOM portal after activation. Save or print every receipt immediately.

Can I use a fee paid in Vietnam for an interview in another country?

No. A fee paid through the Vietnam system is tied to applying in Vietnam. If you switch countries, expect to create a profile in that country's system and pay again.
