Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in Vietnam
Applicants in Vietnam book through ustraveldocs.com/vn. Unlike most countries in the region, Vietnam has two consular posts, so you choose where to interview — and their waiting times differ.
Nothing can be booked until the DS-160 is submitted and the visa fee has activated in your profile. The general sequence is on how to book a U.S. visa appointment; this page covers what is specific to Vietnam.
Two posts, and the choice matters

Each keeps its own appointment calendar, so it is worth checking both before committing. You select the post when creating your profile, and you attend in person — so a post with earlier availability at the other end of the country may cost more in travel than it saves in waiting.
The order
- Submit the DS-160 and save the confirmation page; the number begins
AA. - Create a profile on
ustraveldocs.com/vn, choosing your post. - Pay the MRV fee — methods and timings are on the Vietnam fee guide.
- Wait for activation. Bank and over-the-counter payments commonly take one to two business days.
- Book the appointments and choose how your passport is returned.
Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated. Check your payment method's timing on the Vietnam fee guide before contacting anyone.
- That post has no availability. Check the other one before concluding the system is broken — this is the advantage of Vietnam having two.
- The DS-160 was saved but not submitted, so the confirmation number does not exist yet.
- Wrong country's platform. Profiles and receipts do not transfer.
Rescheduling
Rescheduling is done in the same profile. Posts commonly allow around three reschedules before the fee is at risk; missing an appointment without rescheduling in advance can void it and require paying the fee again.
The fee is generally valid for one year from payment and is tied to your passport and receipt, not to a particular DS-160.
Frequently asked questions
Can I interview in Ho Chi Minh City if I live in Hanoi?
Yes — you choose your post when creating the profile. Because the two calendars differ, comparing them is genuinely worthwhile, but you must travel there in person.
I paid but cannot schedule. What is wrong?
The receipt has almost certainly not activated yet. Check the timing on the Vietnam fee guide and do not pay a second time.
Are students given priority?
Many posts prioritise student visa applicants during peak season before the academic year. Students should still book as early as possible. See the DS-160 guide for F-1 students.
Can my fee be used in another country?
No. Profiles and fee receipts are per country.
