Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in the United Kingdom
Applicants in the UK book through AIS at ais.usvisa-info.com, not USTravelDocs. There are two consular posts, which is the fact most applicants miss — London is not the only option.
Nothing can be booked until the DS-160 is submitted and the visa fee has activated. The general sequence is on how to book a U.S. visa appointment; this page covers what the UK publishes.
We read the UK appointment service pages on 17 September 2026. Addresses are as published there.
Two posts, not one
| Post | Address |
|---|---|
| U.S. Embassy London, Consular Section | 33 Nine Elms Lane, London SW11 7US |
| Belfast | Danesfort House, 223 Stranmillis Road, Belfast BT9 5GR |
Belfast is the one people overlook. It is a listed consular section with its own calendar, and for applicants in Northern Ireland — or anyone for whom a flight to Belfast is cheaper than a wait in London — it is a genuine alternative rather than a technicality.
The London address is worth checking against anything older you have read: the embassy moved to Nine Elms and the Grosvenor Square address that still circulates online is wrong.
Biometrics come at least one day before
The UK service carries the instruction every AIS country carries:
Applicants who are required to appear in person at the ASC and the Consular Section must schedule the ASC appointment at least one day before the Consular interview.
Both appointments are booked from the same account, biometrics first, on an earlier day.
The UK page names no Applicant Service Center location. Of the AIS countries we have read, Colombia and the Dominican Republic publish an ASC address; Canada, the UK, Peru and Ecuador do not. We are not going to guess where yours is — the location shown in your own account when you book is the authoritative one.
What to bring to the biometrics appointment
- Your current passport, valid for six months beyond your intended date of entry. Previous passports are not needed.
- Your Form DS-160 confirmation page.
- Your appointment confirmation and instructions page, printed from the appointment website.
You cannot get in without an appointment
Applicants are not permitted into the Consular Section without a scheduled appointment, and every visitor is screened by security before entry. Both posts publish their own visiting guidance — London and Belfast — and the item restrictions live there rather than on the appointment service.
Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated. Check the method you used on the United Kingdom fee guide.
- That post has no availability. Check Belfast as well as London before concluding there is nothing.
- You created a profile on USTravelDocs instead of AIS. It will never show UK appointments — see which appointment site is yours.
- The DS-160 was saved but never submitted, so no confirmation number exists.
Rescheduling and the fee
Rescheduling is done in the same AIS account. Posts commonly allow around three reschedules before the fee is at risk, and missing an appointment without rescheduling beforehand can void it, requiring the fee to be paid again. The fee is tied to your passport and receipt rather than to a particular DS-160.
Frequently asked questions
Can I interview in Belfast instead of London?
Yes. Belfast is a listed consular section with its own appointment calendar. You select the post when creating your profile.
Where is the U.S. Embassy in London?
33 Nine Elms Lane, London SW11 7US. The former Grosvenor Square address still appears in older guidance and is no longer where visa interviews happen.
Where is the biometrics appointment?
The UK appointment service publishes no ASC address. Use the location shown in your own account when you book.
Can biometrics and the interview be the same day?
No. The biometrics appointment must be scheduled at least one day before the consular interview.
How long must my passport be valid?
Six months beyond your intended date of entry into the United States.
