Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in Canada
Applicants in Canada book through AIS at ais.usvisa-info.com, not USTravelDocs. Canada has seven consular posts, more than almost any country outside Mexico, and each keeps its own appointment calendar.
Nothing can be booked until the DS-160 is submitted and the visa fee has activated. The general sequence is on how to book a U.S. visa appointment; this page covers what Canada publishes specifically.

Seven separate calendars is the thing to use. In a country with one post, an applicant has no lever at all when the calendar is empty. In Canada the wait at Toronto and the wait at Halifax are different numbers, and you choose the post when you create your profile.
The trade-off is travel, and in Canada it is a real one — Vancouver to Halifax is a five-hour flight. You attend in person, and if biometrics are required you attend twice. A post that is three months sooner and four provinces away may or may not be the better deal.
The biometrics rule, and what Canada does not publish
Canada's appointment service carries the instruction every AIS country carries:
Applicants who are required to appear in person at the ASC and the Consular Section must schedule the ASC appointment at least one day before the Consular interview.
Biometrics first, on a separate and earlier day. Both appointments are booked from the same account.
Canada's page names no Applicant Service Center location. Colombia's and the Dominican Republic's versions of this same page list an ASC with a street address and opening hours. Canada's carries the rule and the what-to-bring list and stops there.
We are not going to guess where your biometrics appointment is. The location shown inside your own account when you book is the authoritative one — read it there rather than assuming it is at the consulate you selected.
What to bring to the biometrics appointment
- Your current passport, valid for six months beyond your intended date of entry into the United States. Previous passports are not needed.
- Your Form DS-160 confirmation page.
- Your appointment confirmation and instructions page, printed from the appointment website.
The third is a separate document from the first two, generated after you book, and asked for in printed form. See the DS-160 confirmation page if you are unsure which is which.
You cannot enter without an appointment
The service states it plainly: applicants are not permitted into the Consular Section without a scheduled appointment, and everyone entering is screened by security first. There is no walk-in option at any of the seven, and turning up to ask a question in person is not a route that exists.
Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated. Check the method you used on the Canada fee guide.
- That post has no availability. Canada is the country where this is most worth testing rather than assuming — there are six others.
- You created a profile on USTravelDocs instead of AIS. It will never show Canadian appointments — see which appointment site is yours.
- The DS-160 was saved but never submitted, so no confirmation number exists.
Rescheduling and the fee
Rescheduling is done in the same AIS account. Posts commonly allow around three reschedules before the fee is at risk, and missing an appointment without rescheduling beforehand can void it, requiring the fee to be paid again.
The fee is tied to your passport and receipt rather than to a particular DS-160, so a corrected form with a new confirmation number does not mean paying again.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose any of the seven posts?
Yes. You select the post when creating your profile and may pick one other than your nearest. Because the calendars are independent, comparing them is the main lever available in Canada — but you travel there in person, twice if biometrics are required.
Is a Toronto fee receipt usable in Vancouver?
Yes. The fee is per country, not per post, so it covers any Canadian post. It does not work in another country.
Can biometrics and the interview be on the same day?
No. The published rule is that the biometrics appointment is scheduled at least one day before the consular interview.
Where is the biometrics appointment in Canada?
The Canadian appointment service does not publish an ASC address, unlike some other AIS countries. Use the location shown in your own account when you book.
How long must my passport be valid?
Six months beyond your intended date of entry into the United States.
Can I turn up at a consulate without an appointment?
No. Applicants are not permitted into the Consular Section without a scheduled appointment.
