Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in Colombia
Applicants in Colombia book through AIS at ais.usvisa-info.com, not USTravelDocs. Most applicants attend two appointments: biometrics at an Applicant Service Center (ASC), then the consular interview.
Neither can be booked until the DS-160 is submitted and the visa fee has activated. The general sequence is on how to book a U.S. visa appointment; this page covers what Colombia publishes specifically.

One post, so the choice is about timing, not city
Unlike Mexico or Brazil, Colombia has a single consular section:

There is no second calendar to compare, which removes the main lever applicants in larger countries have. What remains is booking early and, if your travel is genuinely imminent, the expedite route below.
The ASC must come at least one day before the interview
This is the rule most likely to cost you a trip, and the service states it plainly:
Applicants who are required to appear in person at the ASC and the Consular Section must schedule the ASC appointment at least one day before the Consular interview.
Not the same morning, and not afterwards. Both are booked through the same account, and if you schedule them in the wrong order — or on the same day — the biometrics may not be on file when you reach the consular window.

Biometrics means fingerprints and a digital photograph. No interview happens at the ASC and no decision is made there.
What to bring to the ASC
The service lists three things, and the third is the one people forget:
- Your current passport, valid for six months beyond your intended date of entry into the United States. Previous passports are not needed.
- Your DS-160 confirmation page.
- Your appointment confirmation and instructions page, printed from the appointment website.
That last item is not the DS-160 confirmation and not the fee receipt. It is a separate page generated after you book, and a screen on your phone is not what the instruction asks for. See the DS-160 confirmation page if you are unsure which document is which.
Requesting an earlier date: the order is counter-intuitive
If your travel is imminent you may request an expedited appointment — but you cannot request one from an empty calendar. The service's instruction is:
To request an expedited visa appointment, first schedule a regular visa appointment on the closest available date. Then sign-in to your account, click 'Continue', select 'Request Expedite' and follow the instructions.
So the booking you are trying to improve on is a prerequisite for asking. Include the date and purpose of travel in the request. This free route is decided by the post on the evidence you give it.
Separately, Colombia's appointment service published an announcement dated 18 August 2026 indicating the post is among those offering the paid $750 expedited appointment. That buys an earlier slot, not a better outcome, and it is not the same thing as the free emergency request — see the expedited interview fee and check your own account before paying anything.
Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated. Colombia offers cash, card and ePayco, and they do not register at the same speed — check the method you used on the Colombia fee guide.
- There is genuinely no availability at Bogotá for your visa class. With one post, there is nowhere else in-country to look.
- You created a profile on USTravelDocs instead of AIS. It will never show Colombian appointments — see which appointment site is yours.
- The DS-160 was saved but never submitted, so there is no confirmation number to enter.
Rescheduling and the fee
Rescheduling is done in the same AIS account. Posts commonly allow around three reschedules before the fee is at risk, and missing an appointment without rescheduling beforehand can void it, requiring the fee to be paid again.
The fee is valid for 365 days from payment and is tied to your passport and receipt rather than to a particular DS-160.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do biometrics and the interview on the same day?
No. The service requires the ASC appointment to be scheduled at least one day before the consular interview. Plan for two separate days in Bogotá.
Is there a consulate outside Bogotá?
No. The appointment service lists one consular section in Colombia, the Embassy in Bogotá.
What is the "appointment confirmation and instructions page"?
A page generated by the appointment website after you book, listed separately from the DS-160 confirmation. Print it and bring it to the ASC.
How long is my passport required to be valid?
Six months beyond your intended date of entry into the United States, as stated on the ASC instructions.
Can I request an expedited appointment without booking first?
No. The published instruction is to book the closest available regular appointment first, then request the expedite from inside your account.
Does my fee work in another country?
No. Accounts and fee receipts are per country and do not transfer.
