Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in Brazil
Applicants in Brazil book through AIS at ais.usvisa-info.com, not USTravelDocs. Most applicants attend two appointments: a biometrics and document visit at a CASV (Centro de Atendimento ao Solicitante de Visto), and the consular interview itself.
Neither can be booked until the DS-160 is submitted and the visa fee has activated in the profile. The general process is on how to book a U.S. visa appointment; this page covers what is specific to Brazil.

Each keeps its own appointment calendar, and waiting periods differ between them. Because Brazil is geographically large, the calculation is rarely just "which is soonest" — a post two thousand kilometres away that is a month earlier usually is not worth it once two trips are counted.
The two-appointment structure
- CASV (biometrics and document intake). Fingerprints and a photograph are taken. No interview and no decision happens here.
- Consular interview. At the post you selected.
The CASV visit is normally scheduled first. Both are booked through the same AIS profile, and you bring the DS-160 confirmation page with the barcode to both.
Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated yet. Brazilian payment routes differ in how long this takes; check the method you used on the Brazil fee guide.
- That post has no current availability. Check the others before concluding the system is broken.
- You created a profile on USTravelDocs instead of AIS. It will never show Brazilian appointments — see which appointment site is yours.
- The DS-160 was never actually submitted, so there is no confirmation number to enter.
Rescheduling and the fee
Rescheduling is done in the same AIS profile. Posts commonly allow around three reschedules before the fee is at risk, and missing an appointment without rescheduling in advance can void it — requiring the fee to be paid again.
The fee is generally valid for one year from payment, and is tied to your passport and receipt rather than to a specific DS-160. A corrected form gets a new confirmation number, which you use when booking; the fee is not reissued.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do the CASV in one city and the interview in another?
They are normally booked as a pair at the same post. Attempting to split them across cities is not the intended flow and risks arriving at the consulate without valid biometrics on file.
Is AIS the official site?
It is the applicant service platform Brazilian posts direct people to. It is not the Department of State's own site, and the DS-160 is not completed there. Reach it through your consulate's own link rather than a search result.
I paid but cannot schedule. What now?
The receipt has almost certainly not activated. Check the activation time for your payment method on the Brazil fee guide before contacting support, and do not pay a second time.
Do I need an interview if I am renewing?
Some renewals qualify for an interview waiver, but the rules narrowed and most older advice is wrong about who still qualifies. Check who qualifies for an interview waiver before booking.
Can I get an earlier date?
There is a free emergency or expedited request decided by the post, and a separate paid $750 expedited interview fee with narrow eligibility. Neither creates availability that does not exist.
