Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in Qatar
Applicants in Qatar book through USTravelDocs, not AIS, and there is one post — the U.S. Embassy in Doha.
Nothing can be booked until the DS-160 is submitted and the visa fee has activated. The general sequence is on how to book a U.S. visa appointment; this page covers what Qatar publishes and does not repeat elsewhere.

Doha tells you to bring the one thing other posts ban
Every other post we have read opens with some version of leave your phone elsewhere, we cannot store it. Doha opens with the opposite instruction, and it is the first line of the security section:
You must bring your mobile phone to present your green EHTERAZ status to the security guards. Once inside the U.S. Embassy, your mobile phone will be stored in a secure location.
The page then lists mobile phones among the prohibited items. That reads like a contradiction and is not one: the phone comes to the gate, is shown, and is taken into storage. The embassy names a secure location for phones specifically — it does not offer to store anything else.
An honest caveat about EHTERAZ. EHTERAZ is Qatar's public-health status app, introduced during the coronavirus period, and its prominence here is a holdover from that time. The embassy still publishes this instruction and has not withdrawn it. We cannot tell you whether guards still check the status. The practical advice does not change either way: bring the phone. If the check has quietly lapsed you have lost nothing, because Doha stores phones. If it has not, you cannot get in without it.
This is why a neighbour's rule is worth nothing here. An applicant who reads Kathmandu's page — arrive with only a passport, a wallet will stop you — and applies it in Doha may be turned away at the gate for the opposite reason.
A wallet is permitted, and that is deliberate wording
Doha's bag rule is unusually precise about what may be carried in the hand:
Shoulder bags/purses — only wallets that can be carried by hand will be permitted.
Bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders — you can only carry plastic bags containing application-related papers.
So: a wallet and a plastic bag of papers. Nothing larger. Note the contrast worth carrying: Nepal names a wallet among the items that stop you entering; Qatar names a wallet among the items permitted. These are two posts in the same appointment system publishing opposite rules about the same object.
Toiletries of any kind are barred — a category Doha states flatly, where Colombo bars "cosmetics" and most posts do not address it at all.
The rest is standard: battery-operated or electronic devices including digital diaries, digital watches, pagers, cameras, cassettes, CDs, MP3s, floppy disks, laptops and portable music players; food and liquid items; sealed envelopes; cigarettes, cigars, match boxes and lighters; sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files; and weapons or explosives of any kind. The list is explicitly not exhaustive.
Aside from the phone, storage is unavailable:
There is no facility at the U.S. Embassy to store prohibited items. You must make arrangements to store these items before entering.
There is no information window for walk-in visitors. Only applicants with scheduled interviews are admitted.
If you are asked for more documents afterwards
A refusal under 221(g) means something is missing or the case needs further processing. Qatar does not publish a single drop-off point. It tells you to follow the instructions given on the 221(g) refusal sheet itself — so the sheet is the authority, not a general web page, and it should not be discarded.
Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated. Check the method you used on the Qatar fee guide.
- There is genuinely no availability. With one post there is nowhere else in the country to look.
- You created a profile on AIS instead of USTravelDocs. It will never show Qatari appointments — see which appointment site is yours.
- The DS-160 was saved but never submitted, so no confirmation number exists.
Frequently asked questions
Do I really bring my phone to the U.S. Embassy in Doha?
Yes. The embassy requires it so you can show your green EHTERAZ status to the guards, and it stores the phone once you are inside.
Is the EHTERAZ requirement still current?
The embassy still publishes it and has not said otherwise, but it dates from the coronavirus period and we cannot confirm it is still checked. Bring the phone regardless — Doha has storage for it.
Can I carry a wallet in?
Yes, if it can be carried by hand. Shoulder bags and purses cannot.
Can I bring deodorant or perfume?
No. Doha bars toiletries of any kind.
Will they hold my laptop?
No. Storage is offered for phones only; there is no facility for other prohibited items.
Where do I submit 221(g) documents?
Follow the instructions printed on your 221(g) refusal sheet. Qatar does not publish a general drop-off location.
