Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in Morocco
Applicants in Morocco book through USTravelDocs, not AIS or AVITS, and visa interviews happen at one post — the U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca, not at the embassy in Rabat.
That distinction catches people out. Morocco's capital is Rabat and the U.S. Embassy is there, but the consular section that interviews visa applicants is in Casablanca. If you have arranged travel to Rabat for an interview, check your appointment letter again.

Which side of the entrance to approach
This is the detail worth arriving knowing, and the consulate states it plainly:
Visa applicants should approach the Attijariwafa side of the Consulate entrance, an employee from the U.S. Consulate will be there to conduct security screening and then direct them to the Consulate entrance.
Two things follow from that sentence. First, there is a specific side, named after the neighbouring bank — so "the entrance" is not a single obvious door, and turning up at the wrong one costs you time. Second, screening happens outside, in the street, before you are directed in. You are not queueing at a lobby desk; you are being processed at the kerb.
Then the part that families should read before travelling together:
This waiting area is for applicants only; family of visa applicants will not be allowed in the line with them.
Whoever comes with you waits away from the queue. If you are bringing an elderly parent to an interview, or a spouse is escorting you, plan for them to be separated from you from the moment you arrive.
What you may carry
Morocco uses the standard USTravelDocs prohibition, with the plastic-bag wording:
Bags such as travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather, cloth bags, and zip folders — you can only carry plastic bags containing application-related papers.
Large shoulder bags and purses are refused; only bags that can be carried by hand are permitted.
Not admitted: battery-operated or electronic devices, including mobile phones, digital diaries, digital watches, pagers, cameras, cassettes, CDs, MP3s, floppy disks, laptops and portable music players. Food and liquid items. Sealed envelopes or packages. Cigarettes, cigars, match boxes, lighters. Sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files. Weapons or explosives of any kind. The list is explicitly not exhaustive.
There is no storage, and that combines badly with street-side screening: there is no lobby to leave something in and no guard who will take your phone. Anything on the list has to be dealt with before you reach the Attijariwafa side.
There is no information window for walk-in visitors. Only applicants with scheduled interviews are admitted.
If you are asked for more documents afterwards
A refusal under 221(g) means something is missing or the case needs further processing. In Morocco, documents requested under a 221(g) letter go to Aramex, which delivers them to the post — the same courier Jordan and Kuwait use.
Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated. Check the method you used on the Morocco fee guide.
- There is genuinely no availability. With one consular post there is nowhere else in the country to look.
- You created a profile on AIS instead of USTravelDocs. It will never show Moroccan appointments — see which appointment site is yours.
- The DS-160 was saved but never submitted, so no confirmation number exists.
Frequently asked questions
Is the interview in Rabat or Casablanca?
Casablanca. The U.S. Embassy is in Rabat, but visa interviews are conducted at the Consulate General in Casablanca.
Where exactly do I go on arrival?
To the Attijariwafa side of the consulate entrance. A consulate employee screens you there and directs you to the entrance itself.
Can my family wait in the line with me?
No. The consulate states that the waiting area is for applicants only and that family will not be allowed in the line.
Can I leave my phone at the consulate?
No. Morocco publishes no storage facility, and screening happens outside before you reach the building.
What bag can I bring?
A plastic bag with your application papers. Travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather and cloth bags and zip folders are refused, as are large shoulder bags and purses.
