Booking a U.S. Visa Appointment in Singapore
Applicants in Singapore book through USTravelDocs, not AIS. There is one post — the U.S. Embassy in Singapore — and its prohibited list reaches further than most: it bans not only smart devices but digital watches.
Nothing can be booked until the DS-160 is submitted and the visa fee has activated. The general sequence is on how to book a U.S. visa appointment; this page covers what Singapore publishes.

A digital watch counts as an electronic device
The prohibited list opens with "battery-operated or electronic devices such as mobile phones, digital diaries, digital watches, pagers, cameras…"
Two things in that sentence matter more than the rest:
- Mobile phones are banned outright. Not checked at a gate, not stored at a counter. There is no facility at the Embassy to store prohibited items — you make arrangements elsewhere before you arrive.
- "Digital watches", not "smart watches". Most posts prohibit smartwatches. Singapore's wording is broader, and a plain digital wristwatch falls inside it on a literal reading. A mechanical or analogue watch does not.
Bags: only bags that can be carried by hand; large shoulder bags and purses are refused. Travel bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases, leather and cloth bags and zip folders are all named. What you may carry is a plastic bag containing application-related papers.
Also prohibited: food, sealed envelopes or packages, cigarettes, cigars, matches and lighters, sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files, and weapons or explosives. The list is explicitly not exhaustive.
If you are refused under 221(g): documents go to CGI
Singapore names the intermediary. Several of the country pages we have read describe the courier step without naming who runs it:
If you were issued a 221(g) letter and instructed by the Embassy to submit additional documentation, you should submit those documents to CGI, which will deliver your documents to the consular section.

Why no slots appear
- The fee has not activated. Check the method you used on the Singapore fee guide.
- There is genuinely no availability. With one post there is nowhere else in the country to look.
- You created a profile on AIS instead of USTravelDocs. It will never show Singapore appointments.
- The DS-160 was saved but never submitted, so no confirmation number exists.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring my phone into the U.S. Embassy in Singapore?
No. Mobile phones are on the prohibited list and there is no storage facility. Leave it elsewhere before you arrive.
Is my watch a problem?
The list names digital watches, which is broader than the "smart watch" wording other posts use. An analogue or mechanical watch is not an electronic device; a digital one reads as prohibited.
What bag can I carry?
Only a bag carried by hand, and in practice a plastic bag with your application papers. Backpacks, briefcases, suitcases and zip folders are refused.
Can I bring documents in a sealed envelope?
No. Sealed envelopes and packages are prohibited — repack before you arrive.
Where do 221(g) documents go?
To CGI, which delivers them to the consular section. You do not bring them back to the Embassy yourself.
