U.S. Embassy and Consulate Dataset
The Department of State publishes its mission directory as hundreds of separate pages. This is the same information as one machine-readable file, with coordinates and the official country page for each post.
243 posts across 179 countries. 242 carry coordinates.- Download JSON — with metadata, caveats and provenance
- Download CSV — one row per post
- Field notes and licence
Free to use, including commercially, under CC BY 4.0. The only condition is attribution:

What is in it
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
country, country_slug | As the mission directory names it |
region | Blank for 18 microstates and territories, which carry no region in the source |
post_type | Embassy, Consulate, Consulate General, or Institute |
city, address, phone | As published by the mission |
latitude, longitude | Geocoded from the published address, so approximate. Null for one row where the source gives no city |
official_country_page | The usembassy.gov page for that country |
What it is not
Being direct about the limits matters more than the download count.
- Not a list of posts currently issuing visas. Consular operations are suspended or limited at some of these, and the file does not say which. For the countries under the 2026 entry suspension, see Proclamation 10998.
- Not authoritative on addresses or phone numbers. Missions change them without notice. Check the official page before relying on a row.
- Not a substitute for the official directory. It is a convenience copy with a date attached.
It will go stale, and here is the honest reason
In September 2026, USTravelDocs restructured every one of its country URLs without notice, breaking 43 outbound links on this site overnight. The mission directory is no more stable than that.
The file records the date it was generated. If you cite it, cite that date with it. If you need current data, regenerate rather than trusting a copy.
Where the underlying facts come from
The U.S. Department of State mission directory. Those facts are works of the U.S. Government and are not claimed here — the CC BY licence covers only the compilation, the geocoding, and the reconciliation between sources.
